Kiyikoy

It takes 3 hours to go to Kiyikoy through Kirklareli, Saray. Approximately 185 km to Istanbul. However, there are some places to stop on the way of Kiyikoy. First comes Vize, you will see there a tiny but ancient theater is surrounded by wire netting around not much attractive. If you further a bit up you can see Gazi Suleyman Pasa Mosque or Hagia Sophia Church with other name. Building dated to V. – VI. Century.

The structure was built as basilica, until 2006 building left as it is but in this date it is restored and start to use as mosque. Building is not open always if you want to visit key under the doormat. But it could be better before opened the door to get permission, from the imam( Mr. Ahmet) of mosque by phone. When you go in, light on the left side of the door to turn on. Nice place could taken a few photos.

Leave a short tour of the Vize, and passed to the village of Balkaya here to see the large caves. One of them Yenesu cave, it is 3rd large cave of Trakya area, 1620 m long. There are several lakes in the cave, also stalactites and stalagmites, we couldn’t reached any of these caves because of winter time conditions, after parking your vehicle you should walk for the long time on clay way, but we have seen many beautiful photos. Another Cave Domuzdere cave, this cave, 300 m, and in side with stalactites, stalagmites and columns. Also available large wide areas in it. The other two caves are Direkli and Kurudere caves. When you go to the village coffee shop is central point to learn very easy to describe how you can get the caves.

You can reach from the Balkaya village to Kiyikoy. You go in to Kiyikoy through the ancient castle gate. Continue until the end of the road you will reach endless sea. There is a way to port from the side of Kosk Restaurant. Small boards in harbor like occupied by the seagull. Seagull in front, behind of them fishing boats and clouds create a beautiful photo frame. After harbor visit, in this small fishing place you shouldn’t come back without eating fish. One of the good restaurants for this, is Kosk Restaurant. This place has 9-10 wooden tables, a big stove in the middle and fireplace. Father and son working together in this restaurant. After you eat fish they bring melted manna with the Turkish Coffee which is very delicious.

If go out from the castle door of Kiyikoy you will see beach signs. You should go there. You see there stream, side by side with sea how aesthetic photos they give together. There is small wooden bridge over the stream at the end of bridge a tiny cafe. One side of the stream edge is covered with green leaves, the other side of the sea sand. This is like the places which you see in the movies full of peace. Close to the beach you can see Ayanikola Monastery. Monastery on the way of Pabucdere 700 meters to Kiyikoy. Structures belonging to the Byzantine period, carved into the rock made a good example, but unfortunately it is damaged too much today. The structure consists of a few floors and small cells have been carved in the rocks. You can take good pictures if the light is good.

Out of Kiyikoy there is another place to go in the winter season the name is Kastro Beach. This is approximately 300 hectares of open sea to the black forest. I thought this must be place which we always say beautiful place where blue and green together. Gloomy winter appearance, silence and solitude makes beautiful here. I do not recommend you to go there in the summer time. Because many people comes there with trucks and all trucks are full of people. Believe me you do not want to be there in the summer time the place is best in the autumn or spring, and leave before summer comes.
